Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM), University of Melbourneで博士課程に在籍しています。

On Saturday evening the 16th of September 2017, which has become a memorable day, I went off to a Shakuhachi concert in Melbourne. The venue was the Melba Hall, University of Melbourne, Parkville Campus.

*Shakuhachi is a traditional Japanese bamboo vertical flute.

The main performer was Mr Kaoru Kakizaki, who is a world-renowned master of the shakuhachi, and Mr Lindsay Dugan, who is the president of Australian Shakuhachi Society and a doctoral student at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM), University of Melbourne. Furthermore, another main performer Mr Brandon Lee, who is a Koto performer.

*Koto is a traditional Japanese stringed musical instrument.

Mr Kakizaki performed several pieces solely and collaboratively with performers such as a shakuhachi (Mr Lindsay), a koto (Mr Brandon) as well as violins, a viola and a cello.

I put a URL here to see an ABC Sydney’s video that shows Mr Lindsay Dugan playing the shakuhachi at Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival.

Lindsay emailed me to invite the concert. He is a friend of mine, and he graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan, and now he is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Melbourne in Australia. Lindsay and I have certain things, same unis both in Japan and Australia. Lindsay is also the main organiser of this shakuhachi concert.

Please come and see and listen to shakuhachi music at Yarra Edge Theatre this Tuesday 19 September when you have a chance:-)
