そんなことがあったので、書いてみようと思います。
10日ほど前のことになりすが、娘のクラスで（小学校）で「太陽系」の学習の一として”Show and Tell”を行いました。これは、各生徒が学習のお題に関連するのもを持参し、それにまつわる知識や情報を発表し教室全体で共有し太陽系について学んでいくためのもの。
娘が選んだ太陽系にまつわるものとは「太陽」。
うーん、この直球勝負なところがいい！
そしてShow and Tellのために、娘と相談しながらアキヒロ先生ちょっと張り切って「太陽の被り物」と「太陽についての絵」を三枚描きました。一枚ずつ太陽に関する情報を表しています。
また、娘が Show and Tellをする際のエンターテイメント性を上げるために太陽の”被り物”も制作しました。
自転車のヘルメットに太陽の絵を取り付けて、被り物の完成。
そして「太陽」に関する情報は以下の3つ。
1, 太陽は、太陽系の中心に位置している。
2, 太陽は、私たちのエネルギーの源である。
3, 太陽は、時間という考えの起源である。
Show and Tellの前日、娘と一緒に練習したりと楽しませてもらいました。
オーストラリアでは、小さな時からShow and Tellのように人前で喋る機会が多く、助け合いながら学んでいける環境があるように思います。
こういったオーストラリアの教育が持つ特徴と、日本の教育が持つ良さをバランス良く保てるといいですね。そして、上記のように”太陽についての知識や情報”を絵で紹介することで、視覚的に学習をサポートできて、とってもうれしかったです。
The arts can be helpful for increasing student learning and I have had such experiences through my life. I will share one of the experiences here.
It happened approximately two weeks ago, my daughter had a Show and Tell as a classroom activity of a primary school. In that case, Show and Tell conducted aimed to learn our Solar System how it works while my daughter chose the Sun as an item regarding the objectives. The day before the Show and Tell, my daughter and I created two sorts of learning materials, a handmade Sun helmet and a set of 3 paintings. I painted the Sun was placed on a bike helmet. It was for drawing attention and, of course, for making the Show and Tell more enjoyable.

The set of 3 paintings, each of which illustrated the importance of the Sun how it works.
The first painting showed that the Sun is at the centre of our Solar System.
The second painting, the Sun is the source of our energy.
The Sun gives a tremendous amount of energy such as light and heat for all living things on the Earth.
The third painting, the Sun is the origin of our time concept.
It means that the Sun goes up and down periodically and these cycles can be thought of as the source of an idea for the time.
I love the idea of Show and Tell to find what an item means and to share its knowledge with others. My student days, this kind of classroom activity at early learning was relatively uncommon in Japan but I am not sure about it has become common or not in recent days. I guess it does become common.
I, however, believe that we can make a balanced learning for students somewhere in between Australia and Japan respecting both positive sides of the education system. Here, a story of mine “Show and Tell” how the arts supported student learning in Australia that, I hope, works with you at some point in your future.
